Many rivers throughout the world make their way to the sea deep and dark they divide us all and destroy unity . We can see each other across the waters but our looks are cold and distant carrying only bitterness and hatred.
There must be a way to reach out across the rivers there must be a way to cross all the rivers together. together we can build a bridge to reach out to one another together we can build a bridge of love.
Rich and poor are so far apart with these rivers between young and old stand on different shores looking over the streams the white man gazes on his brother and sees his skin is black so wont go any nearer
there must be away.................
I used to sing this in church in Dublin in the early 1980s. Can't quite remember the source - it's either from the Up With People movement or Focolare. The latter is Italian and I think it might be from that one. How do you know it?
